Through the Son
The Upward Look, by Jon Forrest
Through the Son
Rick Warren tells about a friend of his named Ron Dunn. Ron took his young son to a carnival for his birthday. His son had picked six boys to go with him, so Ron bought a roll of tickets. Each time the group came to a new ride, Ron would pull off seven tickets and give one to each of the friends. When they came to the Ferris wheel, out of nowhere an eighth boy was standing there with his hand out.
Ron asked, "Who are you?"
The kid said, "I'm Johnny."
Ron asked, "Who are you, Johnny?"
Johnny replied, "I'm your son's new friend. And he said you would give me a ticket."
Ron asks, "Do you think I gave him one? Absolutely." Why? Because that little kid had come to the father through the son.
1 John 5:5 says, “Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”
Jesus said in John 14:6-7, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
Jesus came into the world to introduce us to his Dad. He came in flesh, but demonstrated his internal nature, that being the nature of God. How could he do that? Simple!
JESUS CHRIST IS GOD!
Twice in John’s first letter to the churches (including us) he explained the nature of God when he said, “God is love.” (4:8 & 4:16) Not only did he use these words, but he gave example after example in his letter of how God expresses this love. The greatest way was through sending his only Son to die for our sins. He died for our sins so that the one thing that made us God’s enemies could be destroyed so that we could be God’s friends again. The Apostle Paul called this “reconciliation” in Romans 5 and other places.
Because we love God and have received this “reconciliation” we become friends with the Son who brings us to the Father.
I can’t begin to express how grateful I am to the Son for this introduction. But, because he loves me so much, I love others better. I love my wife, my children, by grandchildren, by parents, my friends and others better because God has taught me love like I’ve never seen before.
When my daughter, Shannon, brought her husband Jared into our family through her love for him and when my son, Andrew, brought his wife, Tiffany and her two cute little boys into the family through his love for them, Cheryl and I loved them like they were our own kids. Why, because they came through our daughter and son. Therefore they became part of us.
When we come to God through his Son, he loves us just like he loves his Son. Aren’t you thankful for God’s Son? Look what he’s done for you.
This Sunday I will share the 10th message in our series, The Jesus Difference. It is titled, The Impact of God’s Love and based on 1 John 5:1-5. You will be shown how God’s love in your life impacts the relationships around you every day. I hope you can join us for this exciting experience in God’s love.
Loving you through God,
