The ultimate gift
The Upward Look, by Jon Forrest
The Ultimate Gift
I recall a sweet story of a little girl who was in desperate need of a blood transfusion to live. It happened that her older brother had the same rare blood type. The doctor came to the brother, along with his parents, asking if he would be willing to give blood to his younger sister to save her life. Without hesitation the big brother agreed to be the donor.
The two children were placed in hospital beds side by side and connected by a tube. As the big brother’s blood began to be pumped from his veins his face grew pale and tears began to leak from the corners of his eyes. The boy’s mother saw this look of concern and asked what was the matter. He responded, “Mom, how long will it take me to die?”
Even though he would not die from donating his blood, he thought he was making the
sacrifice of his life for the sister he loved, so she could live. That is what we call true love. He was prepared to give his little sister the ultimate gift, his life.
Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13 NIV)
Jesus had full knowledge about this kind of love. No one ever gave so much for his friends and even for his enemies. Romans 5 tells us that Jesus gave his life for the ungodly; his enemies. Have gave his life for you and me.
This Sunday I will share a message with you from John15:8-17 titled No Greater Love. We will look at the love of Christ and how it must be caught and shared by his followers. We will see if we love each other like the big brother in the story above. We will see if we love each other like the Big Brother in OUR Story; his name is Jesus. He gave THE ultimate gift!
Loving you ultimately through Him,
