The Upward Look, by Jon Forrest
A little girl was excited to join in with the family opening their Christmas gifts. She laughed and giggled as she played with the torn gift wrap, boxes, ribbon and accessories. In the midst of the excitement she picked up a used bow and stuck it on top of her hair. Everyone laughed as they saw the little one sporting her special hat. In the excitement, she cried out, “Look! I’m a present!”
Without knowing it, the toddler hit on an important truth. God counts each of us to be his child and a treasure, or gift, to him. Of course, Jesus was God’s great gift to us when he sent him into the world in human form as a baby. But the reason he was sent was because God values mankind as his most loved creation.
However, for something to be a gift it must be offered and received. Jesus was offered to us by our heavenly Father through his birth, his life, his death and his resurrection. If we receive, or welcome, this gift into our lives we receive his presence, his power, his blessing and eternal life. But, there is a part each of us must play.
We must offer our own lives to God as a gift that he will happily receive as his own.
You may, or may not, have a bow on your head. But you can be that present God has always wanted more than anything if you will make the offer today.
Your fellow present,
