Seeking the light

The Upward Look, by Jon Forrest

Seeking the Light

There’s an old story of a man who was walking at night, and saw another man searching for something near a lamp post. Approaching, he asked the man what he was looking for, and the man, without looking up, replied, “My watch”.

The first man asked, “Well, precisely where were you standing when you dropped it?”

Continuing his search, the man pointed a finger in the distance and said, “Over there somewhere.”

Incredulous, the first man said, “Well then sir, why are you looking for it here?” Finally looking up in frustration and meeting the first man’s gaze, the searcher replied testily, “Because sir, the light is better here!”

People tend to follow the light. This has never been more true than it is today. People are seeking the answers to their questions about life; their questions about purpose; their questions about finding meaning about their existence and direction for their daily lives. Well, the bright and glitzy lights of television, movies, politics, music and other media like venues tend to draw their attention even though the answers they seek are still far away.

1 John 1:5 and following tells us that to walk in the darkness is to walk in lies and is rejecting the light (truth) of Jesus Christ. He came to give us light to live with him. That same chapter tells us that walking in his light gives us fellowship, or relationship with him.

Relationship is the entire reason Jesus came in the first place. If you want to find answers that mean everything look in the Light of Christ.

This Sunday we will share part 2 of our series The Jesus Difference Lessons from 1 John titled “When a Christian Sins” based on 1 John 1:5 – 2:2. My hope is that you will find light and Truth that will bring power and direction for your life. We will look at the amazing redemptive power of Christ’s blood for every life. Plan to be there and bring others with you.

Lives could be changed.

Living with you in His light,
