New Beginnings

God is the God of new beginnings, or redemption as we have come to understand beginnings. I am reminded of Ruth and Naomi. Naomi's husband died followed soon after by her sons. At that time, Naomi and her daughter-in-law Ruth depended on their husbands to provide a living. They were now left with nothing. Naomi decided to return to her home land.

When she returned she was no longer known as Naomi, but Mara. She said it was because the Lord Almighty had made her life bitter. Perhaps you've had a bitter year? The loss is too great to carry. Perhaps you feel as though God has made your life bitter?

God has other plans. Similar to Naomi and Job, we only see what's in front of us, but God sees beyond what we can see. When I was a boy, maybe seven years old, I was riding with my family through Colorado. I watched the mountain range and couldn't help but remember there was an entire world on the other side of that mountain, Maybe there was another little boy riding along wondering about me and what was on this side? I imagined a giant Jesus straddling the range and looking on both sides. He saw and knew what lay on either side of the mountain. He knew both me and that other little boy staring at the impossible barrier.

This year may have dropped a seemingly impassable barrier in your path. You may feel there's no way around or through the problems from last year. I want to encourage you, God is the redeemer. He knows what lay ahead. He has provided a way out already, you just don't know it yet.

Ruth went with Naomi, who is now known as Mara. In Mara's home land, she meets a man named Boaz. This man becomes her kinsmen redeemer and marries Ruth. Ruth's faithfulness is rewarded. She becomes Mara's redemption and is even honored to be in the lineage of Jesus.

I believe it's because Ruth was faithful. When the path was difficult and unknown, she remained faithful. I can tell you from my own experience, faithfulness is rewarded with blessings.

God wants to redeem this last year for you. But he leaves it up to us to receive his blessings. We must remain faithful. Stop making bad decisions, don't give up hope, hold fast to the promises of Jesus. There is life in the new year. God has blessings waiting for you on the other side of that mountain, you just don't know it yet.

May you year be blessed

May you remain faithful or return to his favor

May you recognize the blessings when they come

May you thank Him who gives good gifts

Happy New Year!

In His service and yours,

Josh
