Keeping it Real
Do you know the difference between God and a politician? God doesn’t think he’s a politician. Our society has pushed Secular Humanism for decades. I call Secular Humanism “the religion of self.” Our culture pushes the importance of “ME.” It’s all about me. I need to be comfortable. I need to be happy. I need to have my own way. I need to do whatever makes me feel good. We have, without using the terminology determined that we are God.
If God does get included in the discussion people act as if He was created for our pleasure rather than the truth that, we were created for His. In the 11th chapter of Genesis, the descendants of Noah’s sons began to accumulate in one location. God had told them to scatter, but they found comfort and safety in numbers. They all settled in one area. As they came together, they began to get bold and built a tower to heaven and a city for their own glory. Something they could brag about to themselves.
When God saw what they were up to, it made him angry. So, he confused their languages and scattered them all over the planet. If you don’t do what God wants, He will get what he wants one way or another.
That tower was never finished. Anything we try to do without God is destined to failure. James warned us of similar thinking in his letter to the churches, Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. – James 4:13-16
God wants us to be dependent on Him. He wants us to put our trust in Him and not in the kingdom of self.
