The Upward Look by Jon Forrest
I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am about our church family. Loads of positive and even amazing things have transpired and are still happening even today.
As I write this, I think about the new families and individuals who have begun to attend our services. New people bring renewed energy in our family. The cool thing is that many are staying around. And, many of them are inviting friends, relatives, coworkers and school mates to come with them.
Josh McVey has been an inspirational addition to our staff. His youth group is growing by leaps and bounds. It looks like we may take more kids to camp this summer than we have in probably 15 years, maybe longer. This afternoon the big van, the little van and other vehicles will be taking teens, leaders and their children to Amarillo for the concert by a Christian band called Skillet. They are pumped about going.
Joe Smith is doing a great job with our TEKNON (Children’s) Worship each Sunday which has been expanded to the full time of the adult service. The kids are having a great time learning more and more about God.
We took 18 men and boys to the Saturday Sunrise Breakfast at Kenna, NM the day before Easter. We have never taken more than about 10. The food, fellowship, worship and message were all top of the line.
I am excited about the response to our Sunday message series that we have been sharing on the Signs of Jesus from John’s Gospel. We have two more sermons in that series. And our Study on Wednesday Nights from Ephesians titled Victory in Jesus has been powerfully driven by the Holy Spirit. Lives are being transformed and empowered by the work of the Holy Spirit.
At the end of July, Cheryl and will begin our 18th year at FCC. We’ve seen some ups and downs. We have experienced some amazing times and some discouraging ones, but
I have never been more excited about the future and the potential for our church family than I am today.
Pray for me, Josh, the elders, the deacons, our Sunday School teachers and youth workers and others who lead in the ministry of the family. Join in the action and don’t miss an opportunity to get close to the fire that is First Christian Church.
Your excited pastor,
