Celebrate God's greatest gift

Celebrate God’s Great Gift!
Our Children will experience a great teaching this weekend at Vacation Bible School on the greatest gift ever received, the precious Son of God, Jesus Christ. Their theme Scripture Verse is a familiar one but, it is so familiar that we have often taken it for granted. You likely memorized it when you were a child. You have seen its text posted on a big banner in the endzones at football games on tv. People put it on their bumper stickers and other prominent places.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 (NIV)
That’s right! God proved his love to his favorite creation, humanity, by sending us the gift of his precious, only begotten Son, Jesus the Christ, from Heaven, by way of Bethlehem and Nazareth to live among us. And, did he ever live? He lived a sinless life to show us it could be done, but then surrendered that life to be sacrificed through a torturous death because we were in a major pickle!
We had sinned and made ourselves enemies of God. The punishment for a single sin is eternal death in hell. We all deserved that penalty, but God did not want to be in a war with us. He did not want us to receive the same punishment he had reserved for the devil and his angels. That is why we received this precious gift.
We celebrate this gift every Christmas, but often allow it to get lost in the materialistic and mythical celebrations of presents and a jolly old bearded elf dressed in red. Even when we bring Jesus to the forefront, we often leave out his reason for coming. He didn’t come to give us Christmas, although he did come to give us peace, joy, love and hope.
The gift was not just the arrival of a sweet baby in a manger. The Gift was God’s presence in our world and in our lives. He came to restore us to a perfect relationship with God by taking our punishment upon himself and turning our future from darkness to light; from death to life; from hell to heaven. I don’t know about you, but I cannot imagine a more precious gift than that.
2 Corinthians 9:15 declares, “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” (NIV)
This Sunday, June 30, 2019, we will celebrate God’s Greatest Gift with our VBS Kids in a closing program. You will experience the joy of the children and rejoice with them what God has done for us through the gift of his Son. There will be joyful songs, a fun skit, a mission’s presentation and a whole lot of fun. I have the privilege of bringing the message to bring the theme to a climax. The sermon will be “Celebrate God’s Greatest Gift.” The text of the message will come from Romans 5:6-11. Come and share in this Joyful day. Please pray for our children and the children who visit us during VBS this week.
Celebrating Jesus with you!
